About John A. Connell
Before he wrote thrillers, John A. Connell spent years behind a movie camera. As a camera operator in Hollywood, he worked on films such as Jurassic Park and Thelma & Louise and on television series including NYPD Blue and The Practice. Telling a story one frame at a time taught him pacing, tension and the power of a single image, and it shows on every page he writes.
Born in Atlanta, John earned a degree in anthropology and has worked as a jazz pianist, a machinist, a printing-press operator and a stock boy in a brassiere factory. That restless curiosity about people, and about the places that shape them, drives his fiction.
His Mason Collins series follows a former Chicago homicide detective turned U.S. Army criminal investigator through the ruins of postwar Europe. The first novel, Madness in the Ruins, was a 2016 Barry Award nominee. Where the Wicked Tread was nominated for Best E-book of 2022 by International Thriller Writers. Lee Child calls the series a must-read, and Steve Berry compares it to early Robert Ludlum.
John divides his time between the United States and France.
